How is betting Bowl Games different from the regular season?
The Bowl Game season is not the same for a handicapper. Yes, the game breakdowns may be very similar regarding the statistics and such, but motivation is a MAJOR differentiation to the regular season. Last year several players did not even play in their Bowl Game due to their NFL draft status so we need to watch for this in the 2017 games. There are teams who are disappointed with their season and their Bowl game invitation. There are also teams where their head coach went on to another school. There are players who were injured that will be healthy due to the length of time from their last game to the time the Bowl game is played. Travel is also a concern, not necessarily for the players but for their fan base. It is certainly an advantage to one team when the "neutral" site is really not neutral because one teams' fan base has dominated the tickets!
Handicappers' must study and read about the intentions and motivations of the teams to get a great feel for their intensity level for the game. Sure the kids will be excited, but the factors of motivation level can skew their ability to compete. This becomes a HUGE edge for the experienced handicapper. Most books will use their power ratings to establish lines, but getting deeper insight will create value to a side. It is time to view the chat boards, team websites and local news media to obtain the best and most current indications of motivation for each team. Use your time wisely!
Good Luck.
